Mouse buttons swapped

Hi

We've recently had a batch of ActivPanels AP5-70 installed and took the opportunity to upgrade our ActivDriver to version 5.17.13

We've had an issue and a couple of our pc's where the mouse button are swapped during an ActivPanel session. If we check the mouse settings in control panel there is indeed a tick in the button configuration box. We swap them back and then randomly sometimes days later the same occurs.

I'm wondering if there is a driver issue at work here?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Paul

  • To our knowledge, our ActivDriver does not affect this setting in Windows.

Is this happening with other computer used with ActivPanels or when this computer is used with other ActivPanels or ActivBoards?

Are other user account which log in to this computer also experiencing the same behavior?

    Hi

We have had this issue on a couple of computers. I'll try swapping base units around and try some different user accounts to see whether this makes any difference.

    Thanks

    Hi Promethean

We had a board fitted yesterday and have had the same problem as above with the mouse buttons.  Any ideas what we should do?

    Hi

We experienced the problem again yesterday, I've swapped out the base unit for one with a fresh build and we'll monitor to see if this solves the problem.

Still pretty sure this is driver/panel related, we've never had this issue with Activboards on the same pc's

    Hi wardy,

Do you have an additional mouse connected to the computer/laptop?
If so, does this have its own drivers? Please ensure that these settings are also set correct and set for the Left click to be Primary on both the Windows settings and if applicable to the mouse drivers.

If you uninstall the ActivDriver, restart your ActivPanel and your computer, connect the USB cable directly, does this change the left click as soon as the USB cable is connected?

    Kind regards,
    Adam

    Hi Adam

There is one mouse connected to the pc with it's windows setting correct.

When you say connect the USB cable directly, do you mean the mouse cable or activpanel cable?

    Thanks

We have the same problem as above with the mouse buttons.  Any ideas what we should do?
  • Hi Tomaila,

To fix the mouse buttons switching, make sure you have all the windows updates applied to the computer.  Once you apply all the windows updates you shouldn't have the issue.

If you are still having an issue, please provide the OS of the computer, the ActivDriver version number and the model number of the Promethean hardware.

    Thank you,
    Pam

    Hi

We ending up doing a full OS rebuild on the machines involved - haven't had the problem since.

Not a great solution but it worked.

We also have this problem - only happens on PC's that have had the new ActivPanels attached. Never happened prior to this and we have the latest version of ActivInspire installed. Can anyone confirm that the suggestion about the USB cable sorts the problem as we too have tried alternate base units and OS re-installs but the problem does re-occur.... Thanks
  • Are the affected computers desktops or laptops?  In either case, are they of the same or similar model?

Is this occurring while using the panel or computer or is this only discovered at startup or some other time?

The machines are all desktops - mainly Del Optiplex but one or two are HP machines....
It occurs I believe when using the panel rather than the PC itself and the only way we have found to revert it back is to reset the users profile and it then goes OK for a while...

    Hi dan_h,

    Thank you for your reply.

Have you checked to see if you have done all of the available Windows updates on the computer?

    Kind regards,

Yes we deploy all updates through WSUS and all are bang up to date...
  • Hi Dan_h,

On one of the computers, please check the windows update date and number. Also, provide OS of the computer, the ActivDriver version number and the model number of the Promethean hardware.

Once we have that information we will provide next steps.

    Thank you,
    Pam

Hi Pam, the boards are ActivPanel 5 70" LED. OS is Windows 7 Pro (32bit) and the activ driver version is 5_17_13. The windows updates are all installed as of the June 2018 security patches released last week.... thanks

    Hi dan_h,

    Thanks for your reply.

Upon looking into this issue, this does seem to be an issue within Windows (reported on both Windows 7, Vista and 10).
This won't relate to the ActivPanel but appears it could be an issue with the mouse settings/drivers within Windows.
Have you checked that these are up to date?

    Kind regards,

Yes they are as up to date as they can be.... This issue has only happened on machines connected to ActivPanel devices which suggests it is something to do with either the driver software or the config?
