I’ve been playing around with linking other flipcharts when I click an object. Problem is, the drives are different between my home and workplace, so to diagnose the problem further, I want to capture the link ActivInspire sees. I’ve done this before (by accident) but I don’t know what I did. What happened was I did some kind of action and the text showed up on the flipchart itself. How do I do this again?

Could you please give us a little more information on what you are trying to do? How is it that you are trying to link the flipcharts? Are they stored on network drives or on your main computer?
Also if you could get a screenshot of the link information your lookingfor then that would also help us.

Actually, I just found it! It’s using the insert link as opposed to inserting a link by using the action browser. See attached, and thanks for responding! I was unable to get a good picture of the character string on the link to see what ActivInspire was picking up.
Now that I see it, I want to change the path at home so it will pick up the link from H: drive, just as it does at school, where I work. Do you think if I rename my host directory from C Drive to H it will work at my computer at school?
My home computer is an iMac and my school computer is a Dell (Microsoft Windows 7). I’d like to make the paths compatible. Have you ever fiddled around with anything like this?
See, I want it to be H:/D/!Forcey/1stWeek/ReadingToAnswerTestQuestions.flipchart, so I want to somehow make the iMac think it’s reading from drive H.

For this to work, you may need to map a network drive on the
Windows computer which goes to a specific directory. This directory would have to be matched to
one on the Mac.
We would advise contact Apple’s support and/or your IT staff
for assistance with this mapping or any other function of the computers’ operating
systems and directory structure.

I think you’re right about this being an IT solution. I did call AppleCare Support and we tried creating a partition, but it still will not map properly because apple’s partition does not allow colons in the name field. Reassigning a network drive on the Windows side of my Mac DID resolve a similar issue a couple years ago, but that is only because I was using a program than I run strictly on the Windows side of my Mac. I like the Mac version of ActivInspire and want to stay with it on that platform. I wonder if there’s a way to make ActivInspire just ignore the top level host drive when searching for the reference – that could solve the problem. Have you experimented with that?
If you come up with any ideas or hear of anything, I’d love to find out! I really like calling up other flipcharts.

As this issue is due to the way that Apple works with servers, there’s not much we can suggest at this point.
However, an alternative could be to have 2 links on the flipchart.
One for your MAC and 1 for your Windows.

Not a bad idea. In fact, the object containing the links is a blue diamond, so I could put in one of a different color for the Windows link, then when I change the link in the Windows environment, I can change the color of the windows object to show that the I made the change for the Windows link.
Thanks for your suggestion, Miguel. 🙂 Steve
